Who knew there were so many beauty and skin care products at Whole Foods? #offtheradar They had so many natural type products for face and body I had to control myself. I made a small haul telling myself if things worked between me and whole foods’ beauty department I could return for more. I purchased the derma e charcoal mask, Thayers witch hazel rose petal toner, and three Andalou masks: soothing, brightening, lift and firming (not in the picture is the Alaffia Black Soap Body Wash in Vanilla Almond). I have used many of these products so far and have really liked all the ones I tried. #wholefoodsandIworkedout So Let’s get into descriptions!
derma e Purifying 2 in 1 Charcoal Mask (1.7 oz $14.99) – I bought this mask because it does not have a lot of the chemicals that other brands are using to put into masks these days. The size is small and the price is a little steep for the size, but I like that they have out a lot of the harmful chemicals that other brands are sporting. Masks are all the rage these days and everyone has some so lord knows what’s going into the ingredient deck of some of these products. I wanted to get a charcoal mask because charcoal draws out impurities from the skin, so it helps with blackheads etc. I have been using this 1-2 times a week and am really liking it. It helps to calm the skin and prevent cystic acne from becoming worse. It’s really mild and does not burn while you are waiting for it to dry down. Here’s what the description has to say: 2-in-1 Charcoal Mask deeply detoxifies skin of harmful micropollutants in two ways: (1) Natural clays infused with Kimarine® Wakame, Bladerwrack and Activated Charcoal lift out dirt, oil and bacteria to decongest pores as the mask dries; (2) Apricot Seed Powder exfoliates away dead skin cells and captured debris upon removal. Kaolin and Bentonite Clays absorb excess oils and impurities, relieving skin congestion. Kimarine® Wakame is a potassium-rich, magnesium-rich seaweed that is clinically proven to protect skin against environmental pollutants. Bladderwrack is an antioxidant-rich, mineral-rich seaweed known for its water-binding properties, supporting healthy skin hydration and nourishment. Activated Charcoal, known for absorbing 100 to 200 times its weight in impurities, purges pores of deeply rooted toxins, then Apricot Seed Powder gently exfoliates away micropollutants. Ideal for oily, active or urban skin types, even safe for reactive skin (minimal ingredients and allergy-tested), used this formula once or twice a week for skin that looks dramatically fresher, healthier and purely glowing.
Thayer’s Witch Hazel Rose Petal Toner (12oz $7.99)- I am LOVING this toner and have started using it everyday. It does not strip the skin, makes it feel clean and smells divine! This is has really helped with my skin this summer in terms of not being too moisturizing or causing breakouts yet still being gentle and effective. They have other flavors of these including lemon, lavender, original, and fragrance free- watch out though because not all of them are alcohol free. The Rose Petal is alcohol free! Here’s what the company has to say: When daily cleansing does not feel adequate, many individuals turn to a toner to further cleanse their complexion. Dirt, oil, makeup, and impurities can accumulate on your skin throughout the day. This buildup calls for an effective daily cleansing routine. Thayers Toners, including its Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel With Organic Aloe Vera, Rose Petal, cleanses the skin without stripping it of moisture. It eliminates buildup in pores and cleanses the complexion while minimizing irritation.
Andalou Face Masks: I have not tried all of these that I purchased- just the soothing rose. It was like putting on a thick moisturizer, and washing off a thick moisturizer which was a little difficult. I’m not really sure if it did anything to be honest. I mean I am sure it soothed and moisturized, but not sure if it was any better than putting you regular moisturizer on. It will probably be better for winter when my skin is feeling dry and needs an extra moisture boost. I am interested in trying the other two to see if I like them any better.
Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap Shower Gel – Vanilla (16 oz, $7.99)- I bought this on a whim and a hope because Whole Foods has a lot of African black soap products. I was looking for a black soap or shower gel because my skin has been finicky this summer. My body skin is also sensitive and break out prone like my face. Body washes can dry my skin out and make t feel tight while breaking it out. I was looking for a natural body wash hoping that if there were minimal chemicals involved that it would decrease my sensitivity. Black soap is supposed to help with break out prone skin while being soothing. This also has shea butter in it which makes it moisturizing. I have actually used this as my shaving gel too and it worked pretty well for that (described on the bottle for shaving too!) The smell is to the greatest, but it doesn’t bother me. It’s not your typical fragranced floral body wash, it smells natural, but the fragrance does not linger on the skin. This body wash has been a success for me this summer and I really like it! Here’s more information: With Handcrafted Fair Trade Shea Butter, For All Skin & Hair Types, Body Wash, Facial Cleanser,Shaving Soap, Shampoo and More. What is African Black Soap?
In West Africa, authentic black soap is known by its Yoruba name, Osse Dudu. “Dudu” means the color black, which comes from the extensive “cooking” of the soap to the point of charcoal. Many cultures in West Africa use charcoal to detoxify and purify the skin, and this is an integral aspect of our true African black soap. Our authentic black soap is made from a centuries old recipe of handcrafted shea butter and indigenous West African palm kernel oil. Saponification is provided by adding ashes to the hot oils, then cooking the soap for six hours. The final step is to dry and cure the soap in the sun for three weeks. The extensive cooing and curing process makes our authentic African black soap and mild gentle. In West Africa, our black soap is an “all in on” option for cleaning, and is ideal for faces, shaving, shampooing, and as a general hand & body wash for all ages. Scented with a clarifying blend of citrus essential oils. Sustainable Skin Care™
