They had me at sand dollars. When I saw this Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Kiss & Blush cream cheek & lip palette ($42) release when I was at the beach two weeks ago, I knew it had to be mine. I already love cream blushes and this one had my name written all over it! I mean five cream blushes in five must have colors with a highlight #swoon.
Tarte is marketing this as a palette that can be used on both lips and cheeks, but I never usually find this to be true in lip/cheek cream palettes. I was purely buying this to be used on the cheeks, so I was pleasantly surprised when I received it and I could wear the colors on my lips too- score! Usually in these types of palettes the colors look ok on the cheeks but end up being ashy on the lips, too thin, siliconey #itsaword and drying- the formula is not usually there for lips. This formula is creamy and pigmented with the right amount of slip and tackiness to blend and stick around. You can tell from the picture that I couldn’t wait to stick my fingers in this and try out the colors before taking an actual picture for review.
The first color I tried for an all day wear was Smooch because if you read 50 Shades of Blush then you know I gotta thing for pink blush! I used my fingers to apply and it easily blended in to my cheeks without disappearing. This color wore all day on my cheeks so I was pleasantly surprised by that too! What I also like about this palette, is that all the colors are distinguishable from each other, so there aren’t colors that are too close in shades that make them a miss. I also like that all the blush colors feel very coherent in formula from color to color except the highlight which I will mention below. From the picture you might think that Peck and Tickled look very close in color but in real life Peck is very much a nude color where the Tickled is very much a peach/muted coral color. Butterflies is a beautiful rose shade that looks especially good on the lips. I will say Saucy seemed to have a staining quality while the others really don’t. This color stained my finger during swatching so it will probably stain lips and cheeks, which is not necessarily a negative #usecarefully. (I would like to note that it washed off easily and was not a permanent stain, I’m just saying without soap and water there was a stain.) I can not wait to wear Saucy in the Fall! Every color is useable and wearable in this palette. Lets talk about Cloud 9 for a second. This is the highlighter in the middle and it is a little bit different formula. Cloud 9 is a pearl color that has a little more slip and sheerness, so they took that into account when making the highlight shade #nowhitestreaksonyourface. It gives you a perfect glow on the skin without being obvious, #naturalhighlight. #ilovethispalette
